AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Iranian military official has praised the newly unveiled GPS-independent ballistic missile, calling it a key component of Iran’s evolving defense strategy.
Brigadier General Mohammad Mehdinejad Nouri, Deputy Head of Science, Research, and Technology at the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, made these remarks on Thursday.
He discussed the capabilities of Iran’s Qassem-Basir missile, which was unveiled by Defense Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh on May 4.
The general described the missile as a “significant achievement” in cyber technology and military equipment design and manufacturing.
“Whether on land, sea, or space, these advancements enhance Iran’s defensive deterrent power, strengthening its military capabilities against any potential threats,” he stated.
He highlighted the missile’s independence from the Global Positioning System (GPS), noting that it instead uses its own Inertial Navigation System (INS).
Mehdinejad Nouri pointed out that such advanced technology was previously available only to the United States and a few other nations, praising Iran’s experts for developing the technology domestically.
He further explained that since global GPS navigation and control systems are dominated by the US and its allies, the Qassem-Basir missile’s GPS independence makes it harder to track or intercept.
According to him, Iran can now strike designated hostile positions without GPS, even in war scenarios or instances of navigation system disruptions.
Mehdinejad Nouri also praised the Iranian Armed Forces for fully indigenizing the next-generation missile from design to production.
“Currently, all military equipment, including drones, missiles, vessels, and tanks, is designed and manufactured by Iranian experts,” he added.
“This successful and promising path continues.”
The official also highlighted the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and its development of the Shahid Bagheri drone carrier vessel last year, underscoring Iran’s advancements in naval firepower.
